Junior Songwriting Workshop

Does your child have a flair for creative writing and/or music? Have they expressed an interest in writing lyrics, melodies, playing? Aimed at children of Junior school age, this workshop introduces the concept of songwriting to juniors.

This two hour session will include;

  • A jam session! Whether they currently play an instrument or not, this part of the afternoon is a fun an interactive way to learn timing, rhythm and teamwork!

  • Understand song structure and answer questions like “What is a Middle 8?”

  • How to start writing a song - does the music or lyrics come first?

  • How to use language.

The children will come away with an understanding of how to start writing their song, tips on how to get to the next stage and some may even have something ready to perform! Most importantly, they will have lots of fun!

THE TEACHERS

Louisa Strachan – Professional vocal coach, songwriter and singer: Louisa works with singers to develop them both vocally and as artists and has lots of experience performing in bands and in the Theatre. 

Nicola Collis -  Professional musician, guitar coach and songwriter: Nicola trained in songwriting at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. She can be seen playing gigs regularly around Southend, playing both covers and her own original music.
