Who is this class for?

For Children to teens who want to learn to play guitar. The class is aimed at complete beginners or those who started and stopped very quickly. Places are limited to a maximum of 10, to keep the class small and friendly and guitars can be provided for those who don’t have one: please flag this with us when you book. 

Class Outline

  • Learn how to be comfortable with your instrument

  • Basic chords to get you started

  • Picking and strumming, fingers and Plectrum

  • Simple well known Tunes to understand Lead Playing

  • Scales fingerstyles and exercises to build strength

  • Timing, beats and how to count bars

  • Onto to basic songs and Nursery Rhymes (for familiarity)

  • Basic music theory

At the end of term, youngsters will come away with the tools to set them up to begin to play a number of songs and can move on to a more advanced class, if they wish. They will have an understanding of how to play basic lead and basic rhythm guitar. We will also work on one song collectively both lead and rhythm parts (depending on key strengths of individual students) to demonstrate playing in a group / band setting.

The first session is free, then it is £8 per class.

Recommended Guitar; Child size (3/4 sized) Nylon Strung.

A Folder will be provided for students to keep work sheets, please ensure these are present for every lesson as this will be core to the learning progress.

Recommended practice is 30 minutes 2-3 times a week at least. Please be aware that failure to practice between sessions may leave your child struggling to move forward with the whole group as each session is progressive.
